Denali National Park and Preserve is one of the natural beauties that has been recognized by the federal government. Denali holds the title for being the tallest peak in the entire North America. Although this mountain and national park had discussions over the naming convention, it was eventually named Denali which means “high” or “tall” in native Alaskan languages. Due to its origins from Alaska, Denali has been greatly favored over the previous name of “Mount McKinley”. And today, Denali National Park welcomes many tourists, visitors, and mountaineers from all over the world. If you are visiting Alaska, Denali could be a significant stop to make before you leave.
First, let’s talk about getting to Denali. Although many people may expect rough road conditions in Alaska, the road is fully paved and maintained from Anchorage all the way to the entrance of Denali National Park. You can easily access the visitor center near the entrance without worrying about gravel roads. Once you get to the visitor center, you have several options to explore such a massive national park. There are also many hotels, lodges and cabins if you are planning to spend one or more nights around Denali. We’d recommend spending at least one night for the opportunity to explore the Northern Lights at their best. Although it doesn’t get too dark at night during summer, Denali is still one of the best places to observe and photograph the spectacular dance of lights in the sky.
Majority of the park’s interior roads are closed to public traffic. Therefore, you need to decide how you’d like to adventure inside the Denali National Park. One of the common methods is the buses provided by the park authority that leave from and return to the visitor center. There are narrated and non-narrated trips on these buses. You also need to be careful as to which bus you’re taking. Some buses are commissioned to provide an exploration tour throughout the park. These trips can take longer, however provides a convenient way to see the nature and wildlife. Some other buses are primarily on transit routes, meaning they help people get from one point to another within the park. If you like to be on your own and explore freely, these buses will drop you off anywhere you prefer on their route. Then you can catch a bus back to the visitor center when you’re done with your daily adventure. Or camp out in the wild if you have the proper gear until the next day. No matter what satisfies your adventurous trip, Denali National Park is committed to provide everything you need to enjoy every bit of your time in such a unique park in the Last Frontier.
